Objective
I won't say that people always ask for my recipes, but like, they do. I like to think I'm a rather good cook but unfortunately for everyone else, it's nearly impossible to share recipes because I never write anything down. I season from the heart, sue me.
Xmas gifts from me are almost always homemade, candles, clay magnets, stickers, you name it and I've probably done it. This year, I wanted to make something a little more thoughtful and useful (I've actually been cookin' on this idea for about two years) and finally decided to pull myself up by my bootstraps, test my recipes, and write them down.
Salpimentar means "to season with salt and pepper" in Spanish (we love a single word to describe something very specific); originally, I wanted to call this book Kitchen Grimoire, but decided that was too kitschy with the design, and Salpimentar also sounds kinda like a spell; plus, as you go through my portfolio, you'll notice a theme- food. We all gotta eat, so let's eat good.

Approach
This is more of a personal project for me, so I really took creative freedom and decided to have fun with this project.
Since most of this book would be text, I decided to go for a slightly more gothic feel by using a black letter typeface and a B+W color palette to make the images stand out more. I wanted moody imagery to emphasize the witchy, kitchen grimoire feel of the typography and my own personal aesthetic (my spice rack looks like an apothecary).
Here's a sampling of some of my favorite spreads.
After all, I can't share all my secrets with just anyone 🤫
